Team Viewer 5 - PC Remote Control Software

TeamViewer is a computer software package for remote control, desktop sharing, and file transfer between computers. The software operates with both Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, and functions even if the computers are protected by firewalls and NAT proxy. It is also possible to access a machine running Teamviewer with a web browser. While the main focus of the application is to facilitate desktop support and remote control of computers, collaboration and presentation features are included within the package.

TeamViewer GmbH was founded in 2005 in Uhingen, Germany. According to the company's press releases, TeamViewer has over 15 million users operating in 50 countries worldwide.

Teamviewer may be installed with an installation procedure, though the 'Quick Support' version will run without installation. To connect to another computer, TeamViewer has to be running on both machines: it can be run (but not installed) by a user without administrator access. When Teamviewer is started on a computer, it generates a partner ID and password. To establish a connection from a local client to a remote host machine, the local operator must communicate with the remote operator, request the ID and password, then enter these into the local TeamViewer.

As TeamViewer requires only Flash and a web browser, no other utilities need to be installed.

TeamViewer allows a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to be established between client and server.

TeamViewer is available without charge for personal use. For commercial use, an enhanced version can be purchased: this allows customisation of the client module, and supports session logging to facilitate billing.

TeamViewer uses a full encryption, based on RSA private-/public key exchange and AES (256 Bit) session encoding.

As the private key never leaves the client or the host computer, the encrypted data stream, if intercepted, cannot be deciphered. The password is never sent directly but only through achallenge-response procedure, and is only saved on the local computer.
