Shanghai Disneyland 'may open by 2012'

Mickey Mouse and his friends could be welcoming visitors to the city's own Disneyland as early as 2012, a Hong Kong newspaper reported over the weekend.

The theme park, with an estimated cost of 40 billion yuan ($5.8 billion), will be located on the east bank of Shanghai's

Huangpu River, bordering Pudong district's Chuansha town and Nanhui district, Wen Wei Po quoted an unnamed source close to the Shanghai government as saying.

Shanghai Disneyland, 20 minutes' drive from Pudong International Airport, will be eight times larger than the one in Hong Kong - the first in China.

The source told the paper that 10 sq km of land has been set aside for the park.

The agreement on the location of the park was made after 10 years of tough negotiations, with Beijing and Tianjin also vying to host the park.

The Shanghai government had wanted the theme park to be built on Chongming Island, an area that has failed to keep pace with the city's rapid economic development.

The cost, excluding the land, was first set at around 30 billion yuan ($4.4 billion) but increased to 40 billion yuan ($5.8 billion) due to inflation.

The source said an official announcement on the decision will be made around the time of the Beijing Olympics.

According to the agreement, Shanghai Disneyland will not adopt Hong Kong's operation model, in which the government leases the land to the Walt Disney Company.

The Shanghai government will provide the land, cover most of the construction costs and hold a controlling stake. It will pay the Walt Disney Company for using the brand.

Now Shanghai Disneyland is On its Way While Hong Kong Disneyland is Under an Extension Work

Property around the planned site of the Shanghai Disneyland theme park saw a drastic increase in price shortly after the

The news was met with joy by many local residents that own land in the area.

"The price of property will rise. Because there will be a Disneyland theme park and a very convenient transportation system."

The proposed theme park will be the world's sixth Disneyland and the third in Asia. The planned complex in Shanghai is estimated to cover 7 square km, much more than the Disneyland in Hong Kong.

The planned project is to include a Magic Kingdom-style theme park tailored to the Shanghai region, along with other amenities consistent with other Disney parks.

Zhu Lianqing, a researcher from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences says the Disneyland Project will bring huge benefits to the area.

"I think it is a comprehensive Project, which will boost economic development in Shanghai and benefit many sectors, including real estate, tourism, retail, and the animation industry."

However, some Hong Kong business people worry the number of tourists from the mainland may fall if Disneyland visitors are drawn to the Shanghai park instead.

But Rita Lau, secretary for Hong Kong's Commerce and Economic Development says that the planned Shanghai Disneyland theme park and the existing Hong Kong Disneyland will complement each other.

"There are 1.3 billion people in our country. China's economy is growing quickly and the Chinese market, with its huge potential, will be big enough to sustain two Disneylands. Both of the parks can help the development of the tourism industry and even cooperate in the future to expand the Chinese market."

Due to limited space, the Hong Kong Disneyland has been in deficit since it is opened.

CEO of the resort Andrew Cam says Hong Kong is planning to expand the theme park under the support of The Walt Disney Co with the simple goal of increasing the number of the visitors.

"We will invest around 800 million US dollars this time, half of which will be used to make the new entertainment projects with the hope the number of tourists can increase by 30%-40%."

HP Mini 110 With DiGi Broadband Package

digi-logoIt’s been a real slow news day today, so I thought I’d post an older story about an ongoing promotion by DiGi to push its broadband service.  It’s for an HP Mini 110, packaged with the DiGi Explore broadband service, but with a couple of twists:
  1. instead of the fair usage policy of 10Gb bandwidth consumption per month, the user gets 16Gb, an increase of 60%!
  2. the user can pay for the cost of the netbook over the life of a compulsory 24 month contract, at RM 138 per month.

Win32.Parite Virus

Win32.Parite A/B/C

A dangerous virus that will keep spreading on *.exe files that size over 200kb..

The virus is a file infector that is composed of two parts: a small stub written in Assembler, appended to the files infected that decrypts the main virus body, also appended to the infected file. The main virus body is a PE file written in Borland C++ that it’s dropped in the Windows\TEMP directory (or whatever location temporary files have on your system).

The virus infects PE files, and searches for files with
*.exe and *.scr
extensions, on local drives, network drives and network shares on local network. Because the virus appends to every infected file the main body, which is ~180K in size, there should be a visible decrease in free space on your volumes. The virus doesn’t show it’s presence in any way, and does not use email for spreading.

Versions
A and B are mostly the same, while version C
uses a somewhat tricky method of encrypting the original PE file’s entry point. Infected files have the last section’s name consisting of 3 randomly chosed letters followed by a non-printable character.

If in your exe files the last section name is
.jbd or .xgt or something like that, then it’s probably a file infected with Parite.

Kek Lok Si Temple

The Kek Lok Si Temple (极乐寺 in simplified chinese) is a Buddhist temple situated in Air Itam in Penang (Northern Region of Malaysia) and is one of the best known temples on the island and it is also the largest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia.

Most visitors approach the temple as they ascend a stairway, roofs of which provide shelter to a multitude of shops selling souvenirs and other - mostly secular - commodities. There is an inclined lift to carry pilgrims and visitors further uphill. On the elevated platform, you can find a pond filled with Koi and the towering statue of Kuan Yin, Goddess of Mercy, which can also be regarded as Avalokitheshvara, Bodhisattva of Universal Compassion.

The temple is a place where the Chinese community in Penang will gathering for celebrations. The Chinese New Year celebrations are particularly impressive. For 30 days following Chinese New Year, the temple remains open until late at night whilst thousands of lights turn the scenery into a sea of light.

Until today, the temple is still growing. Generous donations from the affluent Chinese community allow the construction of additional buildings. The current focus is to create an ornate shelter for the Kuan Yin statue. 16 carved dragon pillars are being built, the concentric roof will be inspired by classical Ming architecture, reminiscent of the roof of Prayer Hall for Good Harvest in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.

Informations from Wikipedia
"The construction of the temple began in 1890 and was inspired by the chief monk of the Goddess of Mercy Temple at Pitt Street. With the support of the consular representative of China in Penang, the project received the sanction of the Emperor Guangxu, who bestowed a tablet and gift of 70,000 volumes of the Imperial Edition of the Buddhist Sutras. The primary benefactor of the Kek Lok Si Temple in 1906 was none other than Kapitan Chung Keng Quee.In 1930, the seven storey main pagoda of the temple or the Pagoda of 10,000 Buddhas, was completed. This pagoda combines a Chinese octagonal base with a middle tier of Thai design, and a Burmese crown; reflecting the temple's embrace of both Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism. In 2002, a 30.2m bronze statue of the Kuan Yin was completed and opened to public. The statue is located on the hillside above the pagoda."
